This late 1960s dress sparkles with metallic threads and built-in jewelry. It was made by House of Branell and purchased at the high-end West Coast clothing chain I. Magnin. The dress belonged to Joanna Eckstein (1903-1983) travel writer for the Seattle Times and prominent patron of the arts. She was born and grew up in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle and attended T.T. Minor Elementary and Broadway High before studying at Goucher College. Eckstein was also part of a prominent Jewish family in Seattle, with roots going back to the 1860s. Her father was businessman and civic leader Nathan Eckstein (1873-1945), and her mother was Mina Schwabacher Eckstein (1879-1942) whose family had been in Seattle since 1869.
